Reports to the Pro Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs)
RESPONSIBILITIES/KEY TASKS
- Implements the University’s postgraduate policy, research and publications strategy, targets and performance indicators in line with the University’s Strategic Plan and Education 5.0 doctrine;
- Promotes and coordinates the development of a research environment and culture within the University which is intellectually stimulating to postgraduate students and staff;
- Initiates, implements, monitors and evaluates policies, systems and procedures dealing with the University’s postgraduate studies, research, innovation and industrialisation drive
- Operates as Editor in Chief of the University’s journals and facilitates publication thereof;
- Facilitates sourcing of research funding for students and staff;
- Superintends over the establishment and operations of innovation hubs and industrial parks;
- Manages the University’s research grant;
- Develops the profile of the Centre through representation, engagement and development of strong linkages with industry, research funding entities, community groups and relevant research regulatory authorities and convenes research related meetings and writing of reports;
- Coordinates, manages and administers Doctoral Training of the University on behalf of all the Faculties.
- Overseeing the recruitment of doctoral students;
- Maintaining quality assurance mechanisms and ensuring that staff perform their teaching and supervision duties competently.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES
Qualifications
- An earned doctoral degree from an accredited institution;
- Must be a prominent academic with a proven track record of scholarship, research, publications, collaborations, networking and resource mobilisation;
- Be a Full Professor or Associate Professor.
Experience
- At least five (5) years’ experience as a Chairperson of a Department/Head of a Research Unit;
- Possession of Patents/Utility Models/Industrial Designs as well as evidence of Collaborations, Networking and Resource Mobilisation will be a distinct advantage;
