RESPONSIBILITIES/KEY TASKS
- Web Applications Development
- Developing and maintaining web and mobile applications;
- Writing well-designed, testable and efficient code using best practices for applications development;
- Creating website layout/user interfaces by using standard web technologies; and
- Integrating data from various back-end services and databases.
- Design and Implementation
- Collaborating with stakeholders to match visual design intent;
- Implementing responsive design for mobile-friendly applications; and
- Using CSS framework such as Bootstrap, Foundation or Emotion.
- Optimization and Testing:
- Optimizing applications for maximum speed and scalability;
- Conducting web application performance tests and monitoring for performance; and
- Troubleshooting and debugging to optimum performance.
- Maintenance:
- Maintaining, expanding and scaling applications as required;
- Regularly updating application themes to meet strategic intent; and
- Ensuring the site is secure and up to date with the latest security measures.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Working with graphic designers, project managers and other stakeholders;
- Communicating effectively with team members and clients; and
- Keeping up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends.
- User Support and Training
- Documenting university systems and developing user support manuals;
- Training users on applications content management; and
- Provision of user support addressing user queries.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related field.
Experience
- A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in designing, deploying and managing web platforms or content management systems;
- Experience and proficiency with software design and development in a test-driven environment;
- Ability to code web and mobile applications using HTML, CSS, JavaScrpit, or other web based programming languages;
- Proficiency with server-side languages such as Java and PHP;
- Proficiency with database technologies such as MySQL and MSSQL;
- Proficiency with Content Management Systems such as WordPress, joomla or Drupal;
- Familiarity with Graphic Design and Multimedia programming;
- Experience with continuous deployment and automated testing i.e. GIT; and
- Ability to learn new languages and technologies.
