Cleaning Supervisor- Mrs. Nyarai Taona
The Women’s Month
Mrs. Nyarai Taona ensures that the University environment is clean and hygienic in order to promote the physical and psychological well-being of students, staff members, and visitors to the institution. This also involves preparations for events and important meetings. She supervises a team of 13 resident cleaners/ messengers as well as the cleaning teams at 4 satellite campuses in, respectively, Bulawayo, Kadoma, Marondera and Mutare. She makes sure that all cleaning equipment is safe for use, oversees the cleaners' work schedules and redistributes tasks to fill in for absences.
She is a wife and a mother of four adorable children who is currently taking advantage of the University’s mandate to empower women and mothers by pursuing a BSc Honours Degree in Social Work at the institution. She is multilingual and speaks Nambiya, Shona, Ndebele, Nyanja, and Tonga allowing her to interact with foreign students as well. She has a welcoming nature that has created a positive relationship between her department and the rest of the University. She is patient and kind unless you are caught stating negative remarks about her favourite soccer team Manchester United. She aspires towards inspiring women and mothers to explore their potential through the opportunities offered by the University in “addressing gender disparity and fostering equity in university education.”
