Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the vacant position of ICT Administrator (Educational Technologies) which has arisen at Women’s University in Africa.

The ICT Administrator (Educational Technologies) position has the responsibility to ensure optimisation of internal system performance, documenting the operation and support processes and procedures related to the University’s educational platforms, investigating and resolving application and server environment errors, supporting and communicating with the campus community as appropriate.

The ICT Administrator (Educational Technologies) is expected to be versatile enough to work within other IT areas and/or third-party services to maintain a secure, highly-available and fault-tolerant systems environment.

The ICT Administrator (Educational Technologies) reports to the Deputy Information Technologist (Education).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Systems administration and maintenance:
    • Creating systems and workflows to ensure that all course resources are properly set up and available;
    • Responsible for the effective implementation and ongoing maintenance of the myHope Learning Management System (LMS) and all supporting tools, content development, and technologies, roles, users, security, internal system notifications and other instructional technology user accounts;
    • Managing the testing and evaluation of new features and tools that integrate with myHope;
    • Managing and documenting myHope and related systems/platforms configurations;
    • Tracking usage of tools and the learning management system features to provide reports on trends and creates and executes a plan to address those issues and trends;
    • Implementing backup and disaster recovery procedures to ensure continued systems availability
  • Systems development:
    • Ensuring successful development/implementation of course tools within the LMS, including building-level apps, and Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) configurations;
    • Customising and deploying of web and mobile applications;
    • Systems integration using web services among other approaches
  • Staff and student support:
    • Ensuring efficient and effective resolution to course problems and trends by creating and maintaining system and process workflows;
    • Facilitating the escalation of and resolution for ICT issues connected to the learning management system and/or external tools;
  • User Training and support:
    • Providing help resources and training for students, faculty, and staff including instructional videos, how-to guides, and FAQs related to the usage of the learning management system, instructional technology, and documents relevant data about each external learning tool in a central repository;
    • Assisting faculty in content development for online learning including the use of authoring tools such as iSpring, Articulate 360 and Adobe Captivate.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology/Systems or related field.

Experience

  • Two (2) or more years of experience with administration, development and customization of a CMS or LMS in an enterprise environment;
  • Knowledge of content development and multimedia authoring tools preferred (iSpring, Articulate 365, Adobe Captivate,);
  • Working experience within Linux and Windows server environments;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics 365 or NAV an added advantage;
  • Experience with data management and query building using MySQL/MSSQL;
  • Web development experience including HTML,PHP, Javascript/JQuery, and CSS;
  • Working experience with configuring, administrating, tuning for performance and securing applications, including Apache, NGINX, MySQL/MariaDB, Linux and PHP;
  • Experience in designing, developing and implementing training sessions to foster productive use of systems by users;
  • Working experience in a higher education setting a distinct advantage.
