Preamble

The Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Nursing Science at Women’s University in Africa (WUA) develops professional, ethical, and innovative nurses equipped to meet the health needs of communities in Zimbabwe and beyond. Rooted in WUA’s commitment to gender equity and social responsibility, the programme prepares graduates to deliver comprehensive, promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative care across diverse healthcare settings.

The programme is designed to:

  • Address the shortage of qualified nurses in both urban and rural settings.
  • Promote gender equity by empowering women to take leadership roles in healthcare.
  • Integrate modern technologies such as tele-nursing and digital health tools into nursing practice.
  • Prepare graduates to deliver patient-centered care and engage in community health initiatives.
  • Support national development goals by linking nursing education with heritage, innovation, and industrialization.

By combining theory, hands-on training, and research, the programme ensures that graduates are ready to contribute meaningfully to Zimbabwe’s health system and adapt to global healthcare trends.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS

Subject to the provisions of the University and Faculty General Academic Regulations for admission, the following entry requirements shall apply:

Normal Entry

a. Five Ordinary Level passes including the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics, one Science subject and one local Language, AND:

b. Minimum 2 “A” level passes in one of the following: Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry or Physics.

Special Entry

a. Diploma in a Health-Related field with Anatomy and physiology as core course and;

b. Five Ordinary Level passes including the following:

English Language, Mathematics and one Science subject.

The Bachelor of Science Honours in Nursing Science programme is a four-year, competency-based degree with the following characteristics.

· Leadership Development: Graduates are prepared for supervisory, managerial, and educational roles within the health sector.

· Regulatory Compliance: The programme meets the standards of the Nurses Council of Zimbabwe, ensuring graduates are eligible for professional registration and licensure.
