Preamble

The Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Sociology is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of society, social relationships, institutions, cultures, and the processes that shape human behaviour and social life. The programme equips students with the knowledge and analytical skills necessary to understand contemporary social issues and contribute meaningfully to social development. The programme explores how individuals and groups interact within different social, economic, political, cultural, and institutional contexts. Students are introduced to key sociological theories, research methods, social structures, social change, gender relations, development, family and community studies, social policy, and contemporary social challenges. Through a combination of theoretical learning, research, practical activities, and community engagement, the programme develops graduates who can critically analyse social problems and contribute to evidence-based solutions. Particular attention is given to issues such as poverty, inequality, unemployment, gender disparities, population dynamics, migration, family transformation, social exclusion, youth development, human rights, and sustainable development. The programme prepares students for careers in social research, community development, public administration, social policy, development organisations, non-governmental organisations, human resources, education, research institutions, and other sectors where an understanding of society and human behaviour is essential.

Aim of the Programme

The aim of the Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Sociology is to develop knowledgeable, analytical, ethical, and socially responsive graduates with the theoretical, research, and practical skills required to understand, analyse, and contribute to addressing complex social issues and promoting sustainable social development.

Entry Requirements
  • At least five ‘O’ Level passes including English Language and at least two relevant ‘A’ Level passes; OR
  • A minimum of five ‘O’ Levels including English Language and any relevant diploma.
