    Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following position that has arisen at the Women’s University in Africa.

    ASSISTANT LIBRARIAN, SYSTEMS

    The successful candidate will report to the Deputy Librarian.

    RESPONSIBILITIES/KEY TASKS

    i. Administer, configure and maintain the Library Services Platform (LSP) / Integrated Library System (ILS), discovery tools, link resolvers and authentication systems.

    ii. Ensure seamless integration between library systems and campus enterprise systems.

    iii. Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues and coordinate upgrades and enhancements.

    iv. Participate in University system migrations, data clean-up and workflow redesign projects.

    v. Support APIs, system interoperability and data exchange standards

    vi. Support access to electronic resources, including databases, e-journals and e-books.

    vii. Manage authentication methods (e.g., proxy services, SSO) to ensure secure and reliable user access.

    viii. Collect and analyse system usage data and inventory to inform decision-making and service improvements.

    ix. Ensure data integrity, security and compliance with institutional policies.

    x. Collaborate with technical services staff on metadata, usage statistics and troubleshooting access issues.

    xi. Develop policies, documentation, workflows and best practices for library systems.

    xii. Design, develop and deliver training programmes for staff and students on the effective use of library systems, computer-based applications and emerging technologies.

    xiii. Participate in professional organisations, training and conferences as appropriate.

    xiv. Performing any other duties delegated by the supervisor.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    i. Bsc. Honours degree in Library and Information Science

    ii. Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or a related discipline.

    iii. Certification in ICT or a related field is an added advantage.

    iv. At three years postgraduate experience in an academic library setting.

    v. At least two years of experience in library systems administration (e.g., Koha, DSpace) or related enterprise software

    vi. Experience in a Windows and Linux server environment, database management and troubleshooting, digital resource integration and access management and basic programming/scripting for workflow automation.

    ATTRIBUTES

    vi. Adaptability and willingness to learn emerging technologies

    vii. Strong organisational skills with attention to detail

    viii. Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    ix. Demonstrates initiative and a commitment to continuous learning
