    TEACHING ASSISTANT TO VISUALLY IMPAIRED LECTURER: FACULTY OF SOCIAL AND GENDER TRANSFORMATIVE SCIENCES

    Period: Two (2) years

    RESPONSIBILITIES/KEY TASKS
    • Assisting in administering, scoring and recording results of tests/examinations;
    • Maintaining students’ files/records for the purpose of recording the current status of progress;
    • Transcribing hard copy or pictorial material into soft copy information for easy access by the Lecturer;
    • Assist in the evaluation of students’ progress and/or implementing students’ objectives;
    • Provide assistance in marking of examination scripts, projects, fieldwork reports including all work presented in hard copy format;
    • Assist the lecturer in daily mobility;
    • Assist in managing E-Learning platforms including uploading and downloading of learning material;
    • Provide support in the supervision of student task e.g. writing in-class tests, individual or group activities;
    • Assist the Lecturer in the supervision of students on work related learning;
    • Monitor individual students in classroom and individual activities for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment and observing students’ interactions; and
    • Perform record keeping and basic clerical functions, scheduling copying etc., for the purpose of supporting the lecturer in maintaining student files and providing classroom materials.
    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES
    • A minimum of at least five (5) ordinary level subjects including English Language;
    • Degree in Social Work;
    • Registered with Council of Social Work;
    • Proficient and Basic understanding of Braille

    • Experience working with visually impaired populations, paid or voluntary is an added advantage;
    • Basic skills in computer operations;
    • Ability to maintain close attention to detail and to meet deadlines; and
    • Ability to interact with students in an effective manner.
    The candidate must possess the following attributes
    • Strong communication and organisational skills;
    • Proficiency in Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Access; and
    • Ability to handle multiple priorities with accuracy and to pay attention to detail.
