    Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following position that has arisen at the Women’s University in Africa:

    Sign Language Lecturer

    The successful candidate will report to the Chairperson of Communication and Language Centre/Faculty of Social and Gender Transformative Sciences
    RESPONSIBILITIES/KEY TASKS

    Teaching Sign Language to undergraduate students in accordance with Faculty guidelines and standards;
    • Developing and updating course curriculum.
    • Coordinating academic activities for students that develop their problem-solving skills;
    • Inculcating creative and critical thinking capabilities in students in line with Education 5.0;
    • Research;
    • Community service; and
    • Performing any other assigned duties.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
    Education:

    • Preferably a PhD in Sign Language related fields, e.g. Deaf Education, Special Education or Linguistics;
    • A Master’s degree in Sign Language related fields, e.g. Deaf Education, Special Education or Linguistics;
    • An undergraduate degree in Sign Language related fields, Deaf Education, Special Education or Linguistics; and
    • Sign Language Certification: Certificate in Sign Language.

    Experience:

    • At least two (2) years’ relevant teaching experience at tertiary level, with experience in curriculum design and deaf culture education.

    ATTRIBUTES
    • Must demonstrate high level proficiency in Sign Language (4.0+);
    • Familiarity with online or hybrid teaching platforms (e.g., TEAMS, ZOOM, Google Classroom);
    • Strong knowledge of deaf culture, literature, and linguistics;
    • Ability to work in a, inclusive, diverse academic environment;
    • Ability to motivate and guide students; and
    • Effective organisational and planning skills.
