Position: Farm Manager
Position Overview
The Farm Manager is responsible for the effective and sustainable management of Helianth Farmers (Pvt) Ltd’s operations, including crop and livestock production, staff supervision, resource management, and infrastructure maintenance. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive turnaround strategy, with the ultimate goal of transforming the farm into a highly productive and profitable entity. The role supports commercial viability, operational efficiency, and the integration of modern, climate-smart agricultural practices within the Zimbabwean context. The Farm Manager will report to the Women’s University in Africa Farm Management Committee.
Key Responsibilities
- Farm Operations Management
- Develop and execute seasonal production plans for both crops and livestock, aligned with climatic patterns, soil conditions, and market demand.
- Supervise land preparation, planting, pest and disease control, harvesting, and post-harvest handling.
- Manage breeding, feeding, health care, and general welfare of livestock.
- Oversee maintenance and proper operation of irrigation systems, ensuring water-use efficiency and sustainability.
- Coordinate repair, servicing, and safe use of farm machinery, vehicles, and equipment.
- Maintain and upgrade farm infrastructure, including fencing, storage facilities, animal housing, and farm buildings.
- Ensure strict adherence to environmental standards, and all relevant regulatory and health & safety guidelines.
- Financial and Resource Management
- Prepare and manage annual budgets and production plans.
- Monitor input use, costs, and output prices to enhance performance and maintain profitability.
- Generate operational and financial reports for management.
- Forge strategic partnerships, successfully execute grant writing, and develop compelling business proposals capable of attracting bank funding.
- Engage in strategic planning and implementation.
- Develop demand-driven and innovative marketing plans for agricultural commodities produced and processed on the farm.
- Human Resource Management

- Recruit, train, and manage farm workers and technical teams.
- Coordinate daily tasks, schedules, and performance reviews.
- Foster a culture of productivity, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure welfare and wellness of the farm workforce.
- Supervise farm personnel, students, and casual workers.
- Liaise with academic staff and students who carry out research activities at the farm.
- Develop, in collaboration with the Faculty of Agricultural, Environmental and health Sciences, a work-related programme for students to gain technical skills for their start-ups and business enterprises.
Qualifications & Experience
- National Diploma in Agriculture/Agribusiness/Agronomy/Animal Science from a recognised agricultural college or institution.
- Minimum 5 years of farm management experience (preferably commercial/institutional).
- Strong understanding of Zimbabwean crop and livestock systems, i.e., dairy farming, poultry, piggery, field crop, and horticulture.
- A clean Class 4 driver’s licence.
Added Advantages:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Animal Science, or related field from a reputable institution of higher learning.
- Experience in farm management in educational/research settings.
- Knowledge of sustainable and precision agriculture.
