Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following position that has arisen at the Women’s University in Africa.
ASSISTANT LIBRARIAN, SYSTEMS
The successful candidate will report to the Deputy Librarian.
RESPONSIBILITIES/KEY TASKS
• Overseeing and maintaining the library’s integrated library system (ILS), digital repositories, library databases, and website;
• Ensuring the library’s computers, software, and other hardware are up-to-date, functional, and accessible to staff and patrons;
• Planning and executing the implementation of new technologies, systems, and applications that improve library services;
• Providing technical support and troubleshooting for hardware and software issues for both library staff and users;
• Conducting training sessions for library staff to develop their skills in using automated systems, computer-based products, and new technologies;
• Collaborating with other information technology professionals and departments to align library technology with broader institutional needs;
• Assisting in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to systems development and technology use within the library;
• Managing multiple technical projects concurrently and contributing to the design and measurement of technology-related projects; and
• Performing any other duties delegated by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science with a specialisation in Information Technology;
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science;
• Postgraduate experience in a library setting, particularly with integrated library systems (ILS) is an added advantage; and
• Have experience in library systems administration (e.g., Koha, DSpace), database management and troubleshooting, digital resource integration and access management and basic programming/scripting for workflow automation.
ATTRIBUTES
• Strong knowledge of library standards and protocols, common library systems, digital resources, electronic resource management, and emerging technologies like AI.
