A Vision for Rural Empowerment: Advancing Development in Mashonaland East
Real & based on tangible evidence
MASHONALAND EAST, Zimbabwe – In a time when the need for sustainable development is more pressing than ever, His Excellency President Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa’s vision for rural empowerment is being brought to life by his dedicated foot soldier in Mashonaland East Province, Hon. Minister Advocate Ndudzo. His tireless efforts so far to rehabilitate boreholes and work with Ministry of Agriculture in establishing business units , supported by Women’s University in Africa (WUA) to train farmers across Mashonaland East. These programmes are transforming communities and igniting a sense of hope and purpose so far among residents.
In villages stretching from Mudzi to Chikomba, water scarcity has long been a thorn in the side of local development , so far some of the Districts started to witness the fruits of the program.
Under Hon. Minister Ndudzo’s guidance, the initiative to repair existing boreholes in villages and drill new ones has taken center stage. This commitment to restoring access to clean water is not just about quenching thirst; it’s about laying the groundwork for a healthier and more productive community.
But the Hon. Minister’s vision extends beyond water access. Advocate Ndudzo is also advocating for Smart Rural Agriculture, a program designed to empower women and youth. Working with the Ministry of Agriculture and WUA led by Dr Matema providing training and resources to group of farmers in the Province, this initiative aims to equip the women with the skills needed to thrive in agriculture, thus ensuring food security and economic resilience. As these young farmers cultivate their plots, they are also cultivating a sense of pride and ownership in their communities.
The ripple effect of these initiatives is already evident. Local women are stepping into leadership roles, constructing rural tuckshop, spearheading agricultural projects that not only feed their families but also contribute to local economies. “This is our time to shine,” says Mugano a local farmer at Gasford plot , his eyes gleaming with determination. “With the support we’re getting, we can turn our dreams into reality.”
Community members are vocal in their appreciation for this proactive leadership. They value a government and His Excellency President Dr E.D Mnangagwa who listens, engages, and plans alongside its citizens. “For too long, we felt like we were left in the dark,” says a village elder in Ward 4 in Marondera. “Now, we see leaders who care about us and are willing to work hand-in-hand for our development.”
Critics may argue that such initiatives are merely a drop in the bucket, but the impact is undeniable. Each rehabilitated borehole and every new agricultural project symbolizes a step toward self-sufficiency and vision 2030. The emphasis on community involvement signifies a shift from top-down governance to a participatory model where the voices of the people are heard and valued.
The leadership here is not just about governance; it’s about nurturing the very spirit of the people.
