Proud Moment: Grettelle Tavongashe Gazah Chosen for U.S. Institute Program
The Women’s University in Africa is proud to announce that Grettelle Tavongashe Gazah, a dedicated student from our Bachelor of Social Work program, was selected to participate in the prestigious Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSI) student exchange program!
The Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSI) student exchange program is a prestigious, fully-funded initiative sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. It offers undergraduate students from around the world an opportunity to spend five to six weeks in the United States, enhancing their understanding of American culture, society, and institutions while developing leadership skills.
Grettelle had the incredible opportunity of traveling to Washington, D.C. to participate in the program designed to enhance her understanding of the United States and promote cross-cultural exchange among students from around the world.
Some key areas included:
– Public Policymaking: This theme is covered in programs like the “Student Leaders – Comparative Public Policymaking” at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. It focused on understanding U.S. public policy and its formulation through both governmental and non-governmental institutions.
– Climate Change and the Environment: Focusing on environmental issues and how they are addressed in the United States.
– Leadership Development: The program emphasized leadership skills through workshops, community service activities, educational tours across different regions in the U.S., lectures, discussions, seminars, leadership exercises, volunteer opportunities.
We are proud of Grettelle’s achievement and believe this experience will not only enrich her academic journey but also empower her to make a positive impact in our communities.
After attending the program, Grettelle had the following to say;
“As a young leader, I’ve come to realize the importance of learning from others, engaging with our communities, and establishing connections with existing institutions. ship. To all the young leaders out there, I urge you to seek out opportunities to engage with your communities, learn from others, and establish connections with institutions that can help you drive positive change. Remember, our collective efforts can lead to a more just, equitable, and thriving world for all.”
Join us in congratulating Grettelle on this remarkable achievement!
