Empower Your Academic Journey

What are Open Educational Resources (OER)?

Open Educational Resources (OER) are learning, teaching, and research materials in any format and medium that reside in the public domain or are under copyright released under an open license.

These resources permit no-cost access, re-use, re-purpose, adaptation, and redistribution by others while respecting the intellectual property rights of the copyright owner. Ultimately, OER promotes broad access to quality education and supports lifelong learning.

Key Elements of OER

  • Open Licensing & Permissions

Grants the public full legal rights to access, re-use, adapt, and redistribute educational materials freely while preserving original author ownership.

  • Diverse Learning Formats

Includes openly licensed academic textbooks, lesson slides, podcasts, complete online courses, videos, and flexible teaching tools.

  • Lifelong Educational Access

Eliminates learning barriers, empowers educators with adaptable materials, and drives continuous professional and academic growth globally.

A distinct feature of the Mason OER Metafinder is the scope of the discovery service.
