POST:  DIRECTOR, GENDER AND DIVERSITY CENTRE

 

Applications are invited from suitably qualified, experienced and highly motivated professionals who wish to fill in the post of Director, Gender and Diversity Centre.

 

The post of Director is a strategic position which requires a person of high personal and professional integrity, with a distinguished leadership record.

 

The Director will be responsible for the overall management of the day to day operations of the Centre.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Positioning the Centre within the national Education 5.0 policy;
  • Participating in the formulation, implementation and evaluation of the policies in the University to ensure that they are gender mainstreamed;
  • Mobilising resources for the Centre;
  • Marketing the Centre nationally, regionally and internationally;
  • Ensuring that the Centre engages in research which contributes to new knowledge in the area of gender ideologies and concerns as well as promote collaborative research between gender practitioners and the Centre;
  • Creating and maintaining linkages and relationships with external stakeholders i.e. industry and commerce, professional boards, gender responsive embassies, government ministries, Women’s organisations and the University as a whole;
  • Setting up structures that will ensure the Centre has facilities for rehabilitation and counselling services, a well-resourced library for gender research, skills exhibition among others;
  • Providing leadership in the curriculum development of short courses which are guided by periodic needs assessments of the community and industry;
  • Fostering and maintaining sound person and professional relationships among the members of staff, clients and stakeholders; and
  • Undertaking any other duties as may be assigned by the Vice Chancellor.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

  1. A minimum of an earned doctorate in any social science discipline from a recognised University;
  2. Professorship in any social science discipline would be an added advantage.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE FOR THE POST

 

Candidates should have the following:

 

At least three (3) years relevant work experience, of which two (2) years should have been in a leadership position preferably from a reputable women’s organisation or University.

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills;
  • Ability to fundraise and mobilise resources;
  • Practical innovation skills;
  • People management, skills such as negotiating, influencing, networking, empathy, managing relationships and conflict resolution;
  • Ability to motivate and mentor staff and students; and
  • Strong team player.
