ZIMBABWE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON OPEN ACCESS
Call for Papers
The Zimbabwe University Libraries Consortium (ZULC) is calling for papers to be presented at the 2nd Zimbabwe International Conference on Open Access scheduled to take place at the Monomotapa Crowne Plaza Hotel, Indaba Room, from 22 - 23 October 2012.
Open Access is a new paradigm that is hugely impacting and changing the mode of scholarly communication throughout the world. The open access paradigm is based on the notion and belief that scientists, scholars and academicians need to publish their findings and have them disseminated as widely as possible so that mankind can benefit from their research efforts. The authors’ contributions to societal development would not only benefit mankind but would also help promote and enhance their image, status and afford them self respect and recognition among peers and scholars of note in similar disciplines. The wider dissemination and ready availability of the generated scientific and scholarly research has been largely hindered by restrictive intellectual property laws and high subscription cost of journals. Thus the need to remove access barriers to knowledge and information and bring it closer to within easy reach of most people is central to the open access paradigm. Today Open Access can be seen as a knowledge management strategy that is enhancing knowledge and information sharing at unprecedented levels.
The 2nd International Conference on Open Access will focus on the impact of the OA paradigm to various knowledge solutions as well as advocate for Zimbabwe to adopt and mandate open access as a viable and pragmatic scientific and scholarly communication model beneficiating mankind.
The following are topics that will be covered at the conference:
