Topics covered are: i) Goat breeds (Boer, Mashona, Matebele and Saanen Goats); ii) Flock management: Handling, ageing, identification and record keeping; iii) Goat health, body condition scoring, flock management, parasites and FAMACHA anaemia guide; iv) Goat nutrition: basic needs, pastures, supplementary feed and critical feeding times, prevention and cure of poultry diseases; v) Handling facilities: pen management, equipment and mobile grazing systems; vi) Record keeping in goats; and vii) Welfare of goats during drought.

- Course Title: Financial Literacy
Synopsis: This one-week course will improve the candidate’s ability to make financial decisions. It includes the knowledge and understanding of financial concepts and risks, but also the skills, motivation, and confidence to apply such knowledge and understanding in order to make effective decisions across a range of financial contexts, to improve the financial well-being of individuals and organisations. Thus, financial literacy encompasses both financial knowledge and financial behaviour which lead to proper management of financial resources at individual and community level.

- Course Title: Computing Literacy for the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) & Covid-19 era
Synopsis: The Covid-19 pandemic has compelled the world to resort to virtual platforms for e-business, e-learning, socialisation and church meetings. While some of us had some skills in using office applications, many of us are still finding it hard to deploy MS office documents remotely on online meeting platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams. This digital divide tends to follow a gender divide which sadly translates into an economic divide. WUA, therefore, offers this gender responsive computer literacy course to bridge this gap. If you identify with any of the above challenges, the computing Literacy for the 4IR & Covid-19 era course is for you.
On completing the one and half month’s course, the candidate will have a solid grasp of basic computing literacy. They will have the necessary skills and command over the common office applications, internet browsers, social media and virtual meeting platforms. Synopsis: Zimbabwean women are over represented in the lower-end of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and informal sector. WUA is fighting gender-based poverty traps by offering this course in business development. The Gender Responsive Business Development for MSMEs course will train owners of MSMEs to achieve sales growth, business expansion, formation of strategic partnerships, and increased profitability. This course will train participants to conduct resource mobilisation, business growth, product development, vendor management, branding and market expansion strategies. The short course is targeted at existing and potential MSMEs.

This course is designed to familiarise participants with the socio-cultural and political factors that contribute to an increased occurrence of acts of gender-based violence in emergencies. This course is intended to help participants to critique the effectiveness of existing GBV programmes in the context of emergency settings. It provides frameworks, practical guidance and tools on researching, preventing and responding to GBV in emergencies in order to maximise the effectiveness of interventions for GBV survivors.

Synopsis |
The eradication of poverty in all its forms, ending of discrimination and exclusion, reduction of inequalities and vulnerabilities that leave people behind and undermine the potential of individuals is premised on the promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and it’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This courses focuses on developing advanced skills aimed at reaching the marginalised poor people so that they actively and meaningfully participate in development.
Therefore, the course seeks to equip the participants with the practical skills for identifying who is being left behind and why; identifying effective measures to address root causes; monitoring and measuring progress; and ensuring accountability for LNOB. The course is predicated on the key value to ensure free, active and meaningful participation of all stakeholders, particularly those left behind in all phases of policy, planning and programming.

Synopsis |
The discourse on whether researchers research about or with participants have raised questions on how inclusive research on vulnerable groups is. Therefore, the course aims to raise awareness on the underlying unequal power relations between the researcher and participant in the research process. These are accentuated by the vulnerability of the participant. Therefore, the course seeks to equip the students with the practical skills and ethics to conduct inclusive research with children, women, PWD and other vulnerable populations.

Monitoring and evaluation is an essential element of a result-based management approach that a majority of development organisations are now using. It will provide useful knowledge to those seeking to acquire advanced skills for use in a project/programme implementing role that involves the use of project’s data for accountability and decision-making purposes. The Government of Zimbabwe has recently emphasized on the concept of a results-based management approach, and this course also becomes important for government office bearers to adopt standard methods, techniques and best practices in monitoring and evaluation. M&E systems are valuable because they provide information to various people that are concerned with development, accountability, management and learning purposes. This course adopts standard methods, techniques and best practices that are increasingly being employed by international organisations such as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Bank in conducting monitoring and evaluation of development programmes in developing countries.

Objectives |
The objectives of the course are to: i) Prepare individuals with communication skills (speaking, reading, listening and writing) and assessment techniques for them to be able sit for a General or Academic IELTS examination; ii) Assist individuals who wish to migrate to English native countries, to be able to communicate proficiently using the four macro skills i.e. speaking, listening, reading and writing.; iii) Equip participants with the necessary skills that will assist them to acquire life-long communication skills after their course completion. |
Synopsis |
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is designed to assess an individual’s English Language proficiency. As such WUA’s preparatory guide is tailor-made to assist individuals who wish to migrate to a country where English is the native language and is the medium of communication. These countries include the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the USA. This IELTS preparatory guide is twofold and individuals may choose to enrol for an Academic or General Training course depending on their professional or academic interests.
IELTS Academic Test: this test assesses one’s English language proficiency required for an academic enrollment or higher educational environment.
IELTS General Training focuses on assessing one’s English language proficiency in a practical, everyday context that captures and reflects both social and workplace interactions. Both courses consist of four separate communicative sections and assessment is made on the four basic skills of communication i.e. listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Topics covered:
Brief background about IELTS and test score scale, test timings, different testing modes i.e. computer-based, face to face and paper-based IELTS;
Speaking: guide on the ability to hold proficient conversations in English; · Brief Introduction on the phonetics and phonology of the English language; and · Speaking practice and assessment tasks 1, 2 and 3. Speaking tasks will also focus on monologues, impromptu speech and dialogues.
Listening: different types of listening, active listening, passive listening, empathetic listening etc…; · Listening to IELTS podcasts, pre-recorded texts such as funny stories, listening quizzes about different social issues from English native speakers, monologue, dialogue and a conversation between three or four people; · Listening assessments will be taken from different listening stories from easy, medium and difficult levels; · Ways of improving IELTS listening score; · Avoiding listening distractions; and · Listening tests for examination preparation.

By the end of the course participants must be able to: a) Pronounce Mandarin and be aware of the various tonal differences in Mandarin; b) Write Chinese characters; and c) Master elementary patterns of Chinese grammar.
Command of the Pinym System.
Chinese pronunciation and the four tones; Speaking grammatically correct sentences; Responding correctly using grammatically appropriate responses; and Conversing properly in Mandarin.
Be able to follow simple classroom instructions; and Be able to understand words, phrases and short sentences aided by context;
Be able to understand the elementary textbooks materials within the studied vocabulary; and Be able to understand the Mandarin dictionary and use it.
Be able to write the Mandarin fundamental rules of the script; i.e. basic Mandarin radicals, and handwriting and correct stroke orders; and Be able to express oneself in short notes, letters and essays. |
Synopsis |
The certificate in Mandarin shall be awarded to participants who have successfully completed the programme. Chinese is a critical language for all global organisations. Mandarin for beginners features a thorough basic and intermediate Chinese learning experience. This Mandarin programme integrates Chinese learning experiences from basics, such as tones, pinyin, grammar, characters, basic structures and advanced knowledge. The course provides a solid learning system that is essential for beginners to differentiate and construct sentences, and then use them in real life, workplace and business scenarios. Drawing from the skills developed in the Basic Mandarin courses in this series, one will learn how to address people properly in different circumstances, which are especially useful for networking and negotiating with business partners, contract signing and maintaining a business relationship. By the end of this course, one will have gained essential vocabulary and grammar skills for daily conversations and applicable Chinese language skills.
Topics covered: i) Introduction to Chinese Language; ii) Chinese phonetics and phonology (Pronunciation, tonal variations); iii) Chinese morphological structure (basic Chinese key words phrases, common, most useful, word formation); iv) Chinese semantic structure (Mandarin word meanings); v) Chinese syntactic structure (basic sentence construction structure, introduction to greetings, holding conversations about anything from introducing yourself to talking about food, culture weather, asking directions, clothes, cars); vi) Introduction to the Chinese culture, greetings, key cultural practices; and vii) Introduction to Chinese number systems. |
Mode of Learning |
This course will use a mix of methods including seminars, classes and group practice. The material used during course engagement will be shared electronically before class/group discussions. Participants are encouraged to consult regularly as they engage with the course content on issues that are not clear. The course shall be offered through block release as well as weekend classes. Interaction shall be through a blended model that combines a digital and face to face interaction. All Covid-19 protocols shall be followed for the safety of the participants and conveners. |
Course Duration |
The course shall be completed over five months. |
Certification |
Upon successful completion of the course, the University shall award an Elementary Certificate in Mandarin. |
