The Women’s University in Africa (WUA) is a private institution that was established in 2002 and granted a Charter by the Government of Zimbabwe in 2004 (Statutory Instrument 130/2004). Its mandate is to address gender disparity and foster equity in university education.

 

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of Library Assistant at the Women’s University in Africa Kadoma campus:

 

REPORTS TO THE DEPUTY LIBRARIAN

 

RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION/KEY TASKS

 

  • Working with appropriate administrators to set goals and implement actions to achieve them, administer and facilitate programmes and services in the campus library;
  • Overseeing the physical facilities of the Library;
  • Manning the Issue Desk and circulating print and electronic information resources equitably to all users;
  • Shelving all library materials to enable the fast and easy retrieval of materials by users;
  • Compiling quarterly and annual reports and statistics on library and information service provision;
  • Safeguarding library resources through supervision of users in the library system;
  • Assisting users to locate print and electronic materials required in a digital library environment;
  • Identifying materials required by users that are not in the library and informing the responsible officer to acquire them through inter-library loan system;
  • Identifying print materials that are torn and mutilated for repairs and binding;
  • Conducting library orientation and information literacy training programs;
  • Indicating missing items on the manual and online catalogues; and
  • Any other duties assigned by supervisors.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES

Qualifications

  • Higher National Diploma in Library and Information Science.

 

Experience

  • Ability to work with computers to access and retrieve electronic information is an advantage; and
  • Flexibility to work extended hours and over weekends.
